- "Zhao Zong Yuan is the new Australian Champion having won his final game to record a record-equalling 10/11 score. Zhao’s great rival George Xie faltered at the final hurdle but still finished on 9/11, a score which would have won the tournament in most years." GM Ian Rogers, Bulletin 11. - Australian Championship - GM Zhao Zong Yuan (NSW) has won the Australian Championship for the first time, with a record-equalling 10 out of 11 score! IM George Xie (NSW) finished second with 9 out of 11 points. Third was GM Gawain Jones (Eng), and 4th GM Darryl Johansen (Vic). 5th = were IM Stephen Solomon (QLD), FM Vladimir Smirnov (NSW) and Max Illingworth (NSW).
- Australian Major - under 2150 - David Garner (England/ Vic) and Jason Hu (NSW) tied for first with 9 out of 11. Third equal were Kevin Sheldrick (WA), Paul Broekhuyse (NSW), Alex Stahnke (QLD) and Johny Bolens (NSW) on 8.5.
- Australian Minor - under 1600 - Mark Stokes (QLD) won with 9 out of 11. Second equal on 8 points were Tim Li (NSW) and Axel Stahnke (QLD) on 8 points.
- norths Chess Classic - under 1600 7 day competition - Joshua Dalton (Vic) has won this tournament with 5.5 points out of 7. He was followed by Peter Yang (NSW), Clive Lane (NSW) and Elliott Renzies (Vic) all on 5.

- Australian Lightning Championship Decided
- GM Gawain Jones (England) won the Australian Lightning Championship. As he is not eligible to win the title a play-off was held between the 2 players who finished second equal, Junta Ikeda (ACT) and Moulthon Ly (QLD), which was won by Ikeda 2-0. So Junta Ikeda is the new Australian Lightning Champion. 88 players took part.
